The price will depend on the type of text. For example, a technical or legal document may cost a little more than one of more general content. Other factors to consider are the number of words/pages, the file format and the language combination. Send us your document and we’ll get back to you promptly with a price and delivery time.

As a rule, a translator will translate about 2,000 words a day, although technical and legal documents may take a little longer. The format of your document will also be a factor. If it is easily editable, such as a Word file, the process will be faster than if you send us a scanned document.

We have access to an extensive network of highly skilled translators in most language combinations.

Perhaps you need a translation of a Norwegian document for use overseas, for example, in connection with a marriage or the sale or purchase of property? First of all, your document must be translated into the relevant language and then stamped and signed by us at Comprendo (or by a government authorised/sworn translator). Both the original and the translation must then be notarised and legalised with an Apostille stamp, in order to be authorised for use overseas.

Our signatures are registered at the offices of the Notary Public at Sør-Rogaland District Court, so you can obtain notarisation there. Once your document has been notarised, you must apply to the office of the County Governor (Statsforvalteren) which will append an Apostille stamp.

In Norway, in order to become a government authorised, or sworn, translator, it is necessary to pass a comprehensive examination. Successful candidates are granted a licence from the Ministry of Education and Research that entitles them to verify the correctness of a translation, confirmed with a personal stamp.

Comprendo employs an extensive set of in-house quality assurance procedures. These are based on our extensive experience, combined with adherence to the international standards ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) and ISO 17100 (Requirements for Translation Services). All of our translators are native speakers in the target language and perform thorough reviews of their own translations. We at Comprendo always carry out an additional review of translations before they are considered ready for delivery. For some language combinations, such reviews are performed by an external language expert. All translators who work with Comprendo either hold specific qualifications as translators or have extensive and documented experience. We also test candidates as part of the process to qualify new translators.

Yes, we can! We offer editing and proofreading services, primarily in Norwegian and English, but also in other languages. An editing assignment combines the correction of grammatical errors with a re-working and improvement of your text. If you have written a document in your native language, it may be sufficient simply to carry out a proofreading to correct small errors. If you have written in a language that is not your mother tongue, or if you need assistance with a scientific article or your thesis/dissertation, we will always recommend an editing assignment. Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools are software programs that enable translators to work faster and more accurately. This is not the same as machine translation! The translator works by building a digital memory based on the work he or she carries out over time. CAT tools analyse the text in a new document, searching the translation memory (TM) for text segments from previously translated documents and automatically identifying repetitions. This improves the quality of the final translation and guarantees consistency of terminology. This saves time because it makes the whole process more efficient. Saving time in this way enables us to offer you attractive discounts.

Ideally, the efficient use of translation tools requires easily editable files, such as those in Word format. Scanned PDF files, on the other hand, are generally not easily editable. Sometimes, it is possible to convert PDF files into editable formats, but the final result is always best when we can work with files in their original formats.

In principle, we can work with most file formats, but sometimes we have to prepare the files before we can start the translation process. If required, we use skilled document layout (DTP) experts to help us prepare such files prior to translation.

Yes, we can translate all types of certificates and diplomas in most language combinations. If you are planning to use your certificate overseas, we will stamp and sign the translation so that you can get it notarised and legalised with an Apostille stamp. All translations carried out by a government authorised, or sworn, translator will carry the translator’s stamp and signature.

Yes, but be aware that the file format of your original document will influence both the price and quality of the product. You have a number of options.

Firstly, the translator may be able to work directly using your publishing (DTP) software. However, this is likely to be a time-consuming and more expensive option because the translation process will be less efficient. Secondly, if the translator is able to work using his or her own translation tools, any text repetitions will be identified automatically, thus guaranteeing better consistency of terms. This will be less expensive than the option above.

A third option is to submit your text in Word format. This will enable the translator to obtain a precise overview of the amount of work involved. All repeated text segments will be identified automatically, which will entitle you to a discount. You will obtain the best quality result and a good price – the only drawback being that you will have to insert the text into your publishing tool afterwards.

The best approach is if we are able to consult with your web architect to explore different solutions as to the best file formats for import and/or export to the translator’s translation tools. Our translation tools can handle many different file formats. If you send us a file type that we can import using our tools, the process will be much faster than if a translator has to work directly using your DTP software. As with a Word file, you will obtain the highest quality and a good price. This option will also make it easy for your web architect to upload the translation to your publishing software.

We will never supply purely AI-generated or machine translated texts, such as those produced with the aid of ChatGPT or similar. However, we do offer so-called neural machine translations (NMT) carried out in a closed and secure system. In such situations, the translation will always be reviewed and post-edited by an experienced translator. Be aware, however, that not all text types are suited to machine translation. If you have a document produced by artificial intelligence, we can carry out quality assurance of the text for you!

All documents received by us are treated as highly confidential. All our translators have signed a standard non-disclosure agreement with Comprendo. If requested, we can also enter into client-specific non-disclosure or confidentiality agreements with individual customers. When it comes to the protection of personal data, we adhere closely to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and delete all documents containing personal data either at the request of the client or after no later than five years.
